Reflecting on 2023 and Looking Ahead

with Allen Tollefson

As we step into the new year, I can’t help but look back on the incredible achievements we’ve accomplished. I want to express my sincere thanks to Facilities Management staff for their unwavering commitment to the University’s mission.

With the recent integration of the Arboretum Public Garden and Grounds divisions into our organization, it is providing a new chapter in our organizational journey. This exciting addition not only enhances our ability to support our campus environment but also aligns seamlessly with our commitment to environmental stewardship, education, and community engagement. I believe this will further strengthen our position as industry leaders, advancing the University’s mission through strategic planning and innovation.

In our 2023 leadership planning session, we established three primary objectives, carefully selected based on valuable input from our internal staff engagement survey. These goals center around enhancing communication for both internal and external customers, streamlining organizational processes and systems, and setting benchmarks for service levels. These strategic steps are pivotal in elevating staff satisfaction and building trust within the organization. Furthermore, these initiatives create opportunities for us to transition from a reactive to a more proactive approach in delivering services to our external customers.

I’m genuinely grateful for the ongoing support, hard work, and dedication. May the new year be a of reflection and celebration that bring joy and fulfillment.

Allen
