As part of the Space Management and Project Development team, Teri works on a variety of space management projects and policy issues. Most importantly, she maintains UC Davis building and room data in FacilitiesLink, the campus’ space database. She is in charge of getting CAANs, zones, addresses, floor plans and all the other information we need for a new building. Campus space data is vital to daily operations for many departments, as well as for project planning, data analysis and reporting. With over 1,300 buildings and 40,000 rooms in their system, it’s no easy task! Teri says that she really appreciates all the great people in Facilities Management who work with her on floor plan updates, zone and naming issues, as well as the space coordinators who help her by updating space data every year.

Teri’s favorite part of the job is that she gets to see an incredible variety of spaces and research activities. She is always learning new things as she peels back the layers to understand the latest issue. Teri enjoys how her role gives her an opportunity to meet new people and learn about their workspaces and what they do for the university. She loves being able to help the people she meets by translating their questions into the data that they need to manage their space.

Teri believes the biggest challenge is also the most rewarding aspect: the constant change. With work styles evolving, she and her team are continuously reassessing how to efficiently manage campus space resources. Even though there are many things that are hard to capture and measure, they are always making progress on how to be as accurate as possible with data collection. Additionally, many other systems rely on FacilitiesLink, and any missing or incorrect information in the database can lead to issues and delays, which she works diligently to prevent.

Another huge challenge Teri faced in this position was experiencing the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on our campus. She’ll never forget how it felt to walk through campus buildings during the pandemic, but will forever be proud of how everyone at UC Davis responded. The community was innovative and collaborative in order to keep the campus operating. It was an amazing and inspiring experience, and Teri still sees the results of that work today.

When she’s not working, Teri enjoys hiking, traveling with friends and family, and volunteering in her local community. She’s also a longtime runner and loves going on runs with her friends and exploring our beautiful campus in the process!
